If you've been here before, you've probably noticed things look different. I've spent the last few weeks quietly rebuilding this site from the ground up — new framework, new design, and a handful of features that didn't exist a month ago. Now that the dust has settled, here's a quick tour of what changed and why.
Why Rebuild At All
The old site worked, but it was starting to fight me every time I wanted to add something new. So I rebuilt it on Nuxt 4, which sounds like an implementation detail nobody should care about — and mostly, you shouldn't. What you will notice is that pages load faster, the design is more consistent, and I can actually ship new features without dreading it.
What's Actually New
A few things worth pointing out if you poke around:
- Topic browsing. As it was with the previous website framework's design, every Video Note is tagged, so you can still browse by topic — Docker, Linux, home labs, virtualization — instead of scrolling the full list.
- An RSS feed. If you use a feed reader, you can now subscribe to new posts directly instead of checking back manually.
- A cleaner reading experience. Code blocks now have a copy button, pages are quicker, and the whole thing works better on a phone — including the option to add the site to your home screen like an app.
None of this is flashy. It's the boring, unglamorous work of making a site easier to maintain and nicer to use — which, selfishly, means I'm more likely to actually keep writing these.
The Actual Point
Here's the thing, though: this site is a companion to the channel, not a replacement for it. The Video Notes exist to back up what's already on YouTube — the walkthroughs, the home lab builds, the "wait, why did that break" moments — not to stand in for them.
So if you like what the redesign says about where this is headed, the best way to actually support it is on YouTube. Subscribing costs nothing and tells YouTube to actually show you the next video instead of burying it.
